Uma ajuda aos estrangeiros

Hello and welcome to Portugal! In order to help you all get around the city of Lisbon, this website offers you a unique service: the underground stations translation chart.

With this list you can look at any underground map and not feel confused. It’s ok, you don’t have to thank me.

The Lisbon underground is divided in four lines. Because we’re in Portugal, each line was given a name that nobody uses. No one knows the names of the lines and so, the underground people just refer to them by the colours. So we have the Seagull, Caravel, Sunflower and Orient lines, which is to say the blue, green, yellow and red lines.

So, starting with the Blue line, from North to South, here are the stations you’ll find:

– Little Tip
– Carnide (sorry, no translation)
– Military College /Light
– Tall of the mills
– Orange trees
– Zoological garden
– Spain square
– Saint Sebastian
– Park
– Marquis of Pigeon House
– Avenue
– Restorers
– Lower Squeak

If you come of in Lower Squeak you’ll be smack down in downtown Lisbon. You can have a nice walk down Street of Gold. Be warned though, there is actually no gold.

On to the Green line:

– Shingle Saleswomen
– Big field
– Alvalade (again, some stations simply have no translation)
– Rome
– Sand Salesman
– Rather Large Avenue
– Little Streams
– Angels
– Intendant
– Martim Moniz (a guy who got stuck in a door)
– Ownerless Place
– Lower Squeak (links with the blue line)
– Sodré’s Pier

On to the Yellow line, which starts out linked to the green line at “Big Field”, so:

– Big Field
– University City
– In-between Fields
– Small Field
– Saldanha’s
– He-pricked-them
– Marquis of Pigeon House
– Mouse

And finally, the Red Line:

– Orient
– Red Haired Corporal
– Olive Tree Fields
– Disciples
– Nice View
– Judas Trees
-Rather Large Avenue

There we go. The Judas Trees (Olaias), station is a bit of a stretch, but at this time we don’t really know what kind of tree the Olaia is, simply that it’s also known as Judas’ Tree, so if anyone can halp with that one, we’ll correct it.

We are now certain you’ll be able to enjoy a nice stay in Lisbon and never get lost in the tube!
